Moving Along...

So, we're moving along this week.  Dylan is doing really well. The cast only slows him down a very little bit. He needs help with fine motor stuff because he just has the one hand but other than that he's busy as ever.  I have a few pictures of our activities this week. It was a slow week for that. Just before Dylan's injury we had done a "reading party". I set our tent up inside and we filled it with pillows and blankets and books and just hung out in there for a while.  It was nice for a bit but they were still a bit too cabin fevered to sit for very long.  So - they left one by one and the next thing you knew I was in there by myself and it felt heavenly so I grabbed my book and tried to get a page or two in before they noticed and needed me for something :) Last night we found the 'breakfast for dinner' idea on the activity list.  It was a good one for these parents who have had a bit of a long week already.  And since it...

Dylan's Xray and Cast

Congratulations to Dylan....

I am sure you have all been there.  The wife goes out for some much needed relaxing time without the kids and after about an hour or so,  you have to call the wife and tell them one of your kids fell off the table and broke his arm.  Right?  You all know what I am talking about? Right?  Well that is what happened on Monday evening.  Jenny was out having some needed Jenny time and I was at home with the kiddies.  We had finished supper and the kids were running around and playing while I cleaned up from supper and was trying to remove poop out of Evans underwear, when all of a sudden I hear a large bang and Dylan yells like he has been shot.  I think to myself, "Hey, Dylan has been shot."  As it turns out, he wasn't shot but rather he fell off the table.   I do my comforting pat on the head and tell him it will be all right but he is holding his arm and he won't stop crying.  We try and play some catch but he doesn't lift ...

Being Grateful and Another Rainy Day's Activities

Today started out as one of those days when I need to take a few minutes to count my blessings and give myself a few alotted pouting and whining minutes before I can move on into the day.  The blessings I am most focused on include the things that are not in my life.  I'm grateful that my husband isn't a soldier stationed away from home.  I'm glad that he doesn't work crazy shiftwork hours.  I feel blessed that his commute is 2 minutes from home to work, 5 if he stops for milk!  We are so lucky.  He has been working overtime this last week or so and worked most of the weekend.  There has been a lot of single parenting in my life lately (another gratitude moment - I'm NOT actually a single mom). And to start a monday morning, another day of monotonous rain ( I mean rain that I am grateful for because it makes everything green - that's what I'm supposed to say right?) with the kids after no break for days on end, felt daunting.  But we're up now an...

A Birthday Party

Caden experienced another first. He got to go to a friends' birthday party at Chuck E Cheese's. I had known the day would come and here it is! He had a great time! They do quite a bit to make the birthday child feel like the center of attention and I know that my 6 year old isn't going to complain about playing games for an hour before eating pizza and cake. Can't go wrong! The parents were asked to stay so I was able to get to know a couple of other moms a bit better and to see how the kids interacted with each other. I enjoyed myself at Chuck E Cheese's!  Who knew!  I got such a kick out of the boys playing this game.   Caden is way too short for it but he insisted that he could see.

What We Did on These Rainy Days

It's been rainy for days and days so we've chosen some ideas off of our list to keep ourselves busy.  We went to the library We did watercolours and we did handprint art.   I was going to make something out of the handprints  but decided to keep them simple just to have as a keepsake. As much as I wish it would stop raining AND warm up, we've still been having fun and keeping busy.  We went to MOPS (Mothers of PreSchoolers) on wednesday and it was wonderful.  There was childcare and the moms were able to hear from a panel of 3 christian mothers of grown children.  They all had at least 3 sons and 4 or 5 kids altogether so they certainly had valuable things for me to hear.  I admire their strength during trials (kids, particularly teens, WILL give you some of those we learned!) and will have to remember the advice to trust God and just do the best you can.  Cut myself some slack and know that I w...

Cereal Necklaces

Another "100 things to do this summer" activity - making Cereal Necklaces.  They were really into it.  I wasn't really expecting that.  Glad we gave it a try!
